Consultation has concluded

Orange City Council is putting together a Community Climate Action Plan (Community CAP) to support local climate action.

The plan will help households, businesses, schools and community groups take simple, practical steps to make Orange more sustainable and resilient. It will also guide Council in looking after the things we all rely on — our roads, water, parks and community services — and set out what Council will do to look after our city into the future.

We’ve already spoken with a wide range of community members about what they think should be included in the plan — what matters to them, what they’re concerned about and what actions they’d like to see.

We’ve brought that feedback together in an Engagement Report, and now we're sharing that with you.

We’d really like to know if it reflects your views and whether there’s anything you think we should add or consider as we finalise the plan.

Take a look at the report in the right‑hand column and share your thoughts with us by leaving a comment below by 10 June 2026.

CLOSED: This discussion has concluded.

I’m providing the following comments as an individual community member and in my role as President of ECCO (Environmentally Concerned Citizens of Orange).
Overall, the report is comprehensive and a great starting point.
Specific comments include:
* There is a typo on page 27 in 2nd para in 1st column – ‘ECO’ should be ‘ECCO’.
* Good to see mention on page 33 (4.2 Theme One: Energy) of home and business electrification, but would be great to see more said about demand flexibility and supporting the community to make the best use of their Consumer Energy Resources (CERs).
* Would also be good to see more said on page 33 about Energy Equity and making sure no one is left behind in the energy transition.
* Under 4.3 Theme Two: Transport, it would be great if Council could set targets for the electrification of their fleet as a way of "leading by example".
* Under 4.4 Theme Three: Circular Economy, would it be possible to include something about "keeping resources within the system and reusing them at their highest possible value" as part of the description (this is an essential element of CE as I understand it).
* Also under Circular Economy, the first Action Name may be better as Community Engagement and Empowerment (rather the Circular Economy which is what the overall theme is about).
* Regarding 4.5 Theme Four: Urban Greening, ECCO does a lot of work in this area in terms of tree planting and through the Ploughmans Wetlands Care Group, and we’re happy to continue working with Council on these projects.
* Themes Five and Six – Climate Resilience and Climate Leadership – are strong statements and critical elements of a Community Climate Action Plan – well done!
Thanks for the opportunity to comment on this draft. It is a strong document already and we look forward to providing additional comment as it is further developed.
