Consultation has concluded
Back in November we asked the community about the future of the Orange Adventure Playground as part of plans to upgrade the facility. The feedback we received was incredible and we have been working hard to understand what people want the Orange Adventure Playground to become.
More than 200 people completed an online survey and a further 67 people shared their ideas here on Council's Your Say site, while a steady stream of people participated in a face-to-face consultation day at the playground with consultants Civille Pty Ltd.
The top six elements people wanted to see included in the new playground design were:
Slides, climbing and similar play equipment
Trampolines
Water play
Bike and scooter track
Activities for bigger kids/teenagers
Swings
Civille has developed a series of Design Principles and Design Considerations to guide the concept design. Do you agree with these? Have they missed something? We have also developed a draft concept design that we think aligns to what we heard and responds to the design principles and considerations. This plan is still a draft and won’t be finalised until we hear your thoughts.
The plan locates the play areas and other supporting uses such as seating, picnic BBQs and open lawn areas across the site. It doesn’t prescribe the exact type or location of each individual piece of play equipment. At this stage we want your feedback on the layout and what each of the spaces might include before going to the next level of detail. We have created a list of the proposed types of equipment and play opportunities, based on the previous feedback, for you to comment on.
We also need to discuss the future. Unfortunately, not everything shown in the draft concept design can be built as part of Stage 1 due to funding constraints, so we would like to know your preferences are for what to build next if more money becomes available in the future.
The next step will be to gather all of the latest feedback and prepare a final concept design, which will guide future detailed design stages including the type and location of specific play elements and equipment – including proposals for the reuse of existing features of the playground.

You can also share your thoughts with everyone else on the virtual ideas board until 20 March 2023.
