What we heard from you: New Redmond Place Neighbourhood

We recently asked Orange locals what your needs and priorities for housing are, and what you think Landcom and Orange City Council’s future development at Redmond Place should look and feel like.

Between December 2023 and February 2024 we spoke to young people, families, retirees, new locals and longtime locals – and we loved hearing your diverse perspectives.

Understanding Orange’s housing needs

We started our consultation by asking about people’s current living situation, what they hope to do next, and why.

Of the survey respondents who currently own their home, half plan to stay for the foreseeable future. For the half that plan to move, more are looking to downsize (59%) than move to a bigger place (41%).

The top reason why respondents want to purchase a bigger home is to provide space for their growing family (56%), whereas the most popular reasons for wanting to downsize were to reduce maintenance and upkeep (25%), to reduce energy and running costs (22%) or because their current home is too big for their household (22%).

We heard a strong desire for Landcom and Council to create a neighbourhood that prioritises sustainability, energy efficiency and healthy lifestyles.

Creating a vision for Redmond Place

We worked with community members on a project vision for Redmond Place. Two in person workshops at the Orange City Council Chambers and the Glenroi Community Centre were accompanied by an online survey and ideas board on Your Say Orange. We are grateful for the community’s time and ideas.
