Phillipalmost 3 years agoHuge Potential for this Block
I find this block has an interesting variety of architecture. Near the south end a new building is in progress while thankfully still keeping the facade. Next door there is a proposal to develop the old Australia Cinema to be a hotel/retail centre going up to 4 stories. This could make a significant change to the character of the block which is currently fairly laid-back. If developed right this block can lead to tourist/shoppers/locals onto Robinson Park and then the cultural centre of Museum/Gallery/library/Con. etc. Making it a key retail/food/cultural hub for Orange. Joining in with McNamara Lane which is currently being developed.

These are taking off all over the world in cold climate cities; NY, UK, particularly since the pandemic. They allow people to dine all year around the vibe out on the street, while being protected from the cold and sitting right on top of others. Heated concrete benches, pedestrian only street with lots of colour and space for street entertainment while people are dining would be fabulous!

Keep the old architecture and trees
1 comment4LordAAalmost 3 years agoCommon sense come on it’s 2021ac, not 2021bc!
Aged & disabled have enough problems without having to park fair distances from where they need to be and in all honesty I can’t think of anything more disgusting than trying to have a drink or a feed with dirty people, cars and trucks driving by expelling road grime, rubbish, spitting, cigarette/caps and vehicle smoke over the food in the area, Either inside eating or a courtyard like area away from general walking & vehicle traffics

Zacrugbynutalmost 3 years agoRestore the old theatre to its original form
You should reopen the old theatre and restore it to its original form and we could get a whole heap of old theatre and candy bar things.
0 comment2Jtsharpalmost 3 years agoRemove ALL the parking, add the eating areas there but allow traffic to still flow through with "drop off" lanes for people 2 moving lanes.
Like some schools have "kiss and drop" lanes, allow this so that you can drop off people but NOT park, this would then mean that you would only need one lane for traffic each way. The additional space can then be used for outdoor seating. When thinking about outdoor seating please be practical about it... we are in Orange - I have no doubt that you are thinking seriously about how that can work. We have lovely days throughout the year (even in winter sometimes) so outdoor can be well used on the right days.
0 comment0wwwalkeralmost 3 years agomore new shops with ecommerce
There are a lot of dead shops in Lords Place. It needs to be more attractive for shoppers and retailers with parking or clustering with similar shops to grow the area. Often two or three shops in similar trade help each other if they are side by side, e.g. food, clothing, office materials or outdoors shops. Ecommerce could help bring in customers from out of town.
0 comment2Caroline&Davidalmost 3 years agoOrange needs a place/places for people to sit/meet/eat that is off the highway. We need other attractions too besides food, wine and sport..
0 comment1simonwrightalmost 3 years agoIf Council is really serious about a food street, shut off to traffic after 5pm and w/ends and make a european style piazza with markets etc
